Fly tying
BONUS FLY #2: “The Dookie” is another Pyramid Lake fly I invented for catching the biggest of the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. Cutthroats love attacking wooly buggers and wooly worms, the problem with striping streamer flies in still water is they can drag along the bottom, making it challenging for the fish to bite. “The Dookie” has a thick foam body so it rises up during the pause and mysteriously levitates, captivationg it’s audience, encouraging an easy ambush.
In this 10-minute video Patrick gives you complete instructions on how to tie his favorite Alaskan Steelhead fly: “The Purple Tailed Fuscia and UV Polar Bodied Articulated Leach”
BONUS FLY #1: This video contains complete instructions for tying the Green Head Beetle. I designed this fly specifically to catch the big Lahontan Cutthroat Trout at Pyramid Lake, Nevada. It’s fished along the bottom with a fast sinking tip line. When striped slowly the beetle stays just off the bottom, slowly rising up toward the surface during the pause in your strip. The realistic slow rise and the fact that it’s not dragging along the bottom make it one deadly fly.
